Information about the safe disposal of clinical waste.

Contaminated Medical Waste

Contaminated Waste consists of needles, blood products, soiled bandages, dressings etc & anything that can cause a risk health wise to another person.

All contaminated medical waste should be taken away by the practice nurses who attend the patient.

Incontinence Pads

Incontinence pads are not classed as clinical waste so can be disposed of as domestic waste in the grey bin. They should be carefully wrapped up.

Dialysis Waste

Please contact a member of the Operational Services Team (01253 658 658 / listening@fylde.gov.uk) who will arrange for this with Lancashire Environmental Services.


Needles from Pets (for example cats with diabetes)

When the vets issue you the syringes the vet should tell you how to dispose them. If not then please contact the vets that supplied the syringes.
