What constitutes an Emergency?
If something needs to be dealt with urgently, you should ring the emergency contact number. There is no comprehensive definition of when you should and shouldn't call but examples may include:
- Debris obstructing the highway
- Fallen lamp posts or trees
- In-secure council buildings
- Large scale chemical incidents
Calling the Emergency Services
You should only use the number above if the emergency you need to tell us about relates to a council matter. If a crime has been committed, you see a fire or require urgent medical attention, you should always call 999.
Please do not use email to report any emergency, crime or urgent matter as emails are not always monitored 24 hours a day.
Government Advice
The Government recently embarked on a national drive to promote awareness of how to be prepared for large scale emergencies. A practical information guide 'Preparing for Emergencies - what you need to know' has been produced and distributed to households across the UK. Copies in alternative languages are also available.
