Information about how the overview and scrutiny team look at the quality of council services.

Let us Know Your Views

The Overview and Scrutiny Team always welcome suggestions from the public for topics which the Scrutiny Committees could add to their work plans for in-depth review. If you want us to look at an issue, let us know by using this form, and we will pass it onto the Scrutiny Management Board.

The role of Overview and Scrutiny is to look at the quality of council services and other issues that affect the lives of people in Fylde.

The Overview and Scrutiny Committees at Fylde will listen to the concerns of local people to check out how the council and other organisation's are performing.

What can Overview and Scrutiny lead to?

A Council that measures its own performance and regularly reports in public on how well it is meeting its promises;

  • Improved council policies and services that meet peoples needs better;
  • Improved policies and services from other organisation's that affect the quality of life in the borough;
  • Public and other services that operate in a more effective joined up manner;
  • More openness and accountability about the way decisions are made;
  • A Council that holds to account those Councillors and officers responsible for implementing policies and delivering services.

Have Your Say

The Council already uses questionnaires, surveys and other types of consultation to gauge the opinions of local people.
However, if you think that a particular topic or service area should be scrutinised by the Council you can e-mail your comments to the Overview and Scrutiny Officer at the following address anniew@fylde.gov.uk  Alternatively, let your Councillor know.

If you are already involved in a local organisation or interest group you may wish to submit your views as a group. You may also be invited to give evidence or contribute to a review of a specific topic by providing advice, information and your views.

Local Issues
The government has given local councillors a wide brief, allowing them to scrutinise any issue that affects the local area. On occasions, this means that the committee will need to work alongside other organisation's by inviting them to take part in Overview and Scrutiny reviews.

You Can Help
To scrutinise local services properly the Overview and Scrutiny Committees will seek information from people both within and outside the council.
It will seek advice from independent experts and will want to hear from local people, businesses, Town and Parish Councils, community groups and voluntary organisation's.

Overview and Scrutiny Work Programme
The Overview and Scrutiny Committees publish work plans to guide their work over the forthcoming months.
The work plans are reviewed on a regular basis to include new items and highlight any public events or consultation's taking place.

All Overview and Scrutiny Committee meetings are open to the public, and are held in various location's across the Borough.
Should you require any further information in relation to the work of Overview and Scrutiny or if you have difficulty locating the information which you require please contact Annie Womack on 01253 658423, or e-mail anniew@fylde.gov.uk.
