Child Protection

There are many possible signs of abuse, ranging from physical injury to changes in behaviour. Alternatively you may witness an incident or the child may tell you that he/she is being harmed.

If you are worried about the welfare or safety of a child it is very important that you contact:

  • The police on 999 if you think a child is in immediate danger.
  • Call Care Connect on 0300 123 6720
  • The NSPCC on 0808 8005 000

The Prevent Strategy

‘Prevent’ is a multi-agency safeguarding programme run in every local authority in England and Wales. It is a part of the overall counter terrorism strategy – CONTEST. Prevent is about early intervention to protect vulnerable people from being drawn into becoming radicalised or suspected of committing terrorist-related activity and addresses all types of extremism. For local authorities our key role is to support vulnerable individuals and safeguard them from harming themselves or others.
