Mayor of Fylde 2017/18 - Councillor John Singleton JP
My name is John Singleton and I am pleased to serve you as the Mayor of Fylde for the 2017/2018 Municipal Year.
I hadn't anticipated being asked to be the Mayor and it was a huge surprise and a great honour when this happened.
I commit to representing the Borough of Fylde to the highest standard and will promote the Fylde at every opportunity.
Here's my story.....
Born on 22nd October 1948 I was raised and lived in Kirkham for many years. I have lived in Blackpool, Warton, Wesham and have lived in Staining for the past 15 years.
I have been married to Geraldine for 27 years and have two children from a previous marriage.
I worked for BAE Systems for 31 years at Warton, Samlesbury and Brough. The last posts I held were that of Inventory Manager and Logistics Manager for the three sites.
I have been a Staining Parish Councillor for 17 years, the Chairman for two years and in 2007 I was elected, unopposed, to one of the two Fylde Borough Councillor seats for the Staining & Weeton ward. In 2011 I fought for the seat against five other candidates and was returned with a healthy majority of 582 votes. In 2015 I retained my seat with an increased and impressive majority of the votes of 971.
I possess great drive, enthusiasm and work hard for the residents of Staining & Weeton. I am a do-er not a talker and, with me, mainstream politics take a back seat as my priority is serving the people of Staining & Weeton.
Locally I am a member of the Staining Village Hall Committee; Vice Chairman of Weeton Village Hall Committee; member of Staining Parish Council Finance Committee and the lead member and driving force behind the Staining Flood Action Group.
And in my spare time I am a serving Justice of the Peace on the Adult Criminal and Youth Courts in Lancashire and Cumbria.
Over the years I have served in, and raised funds for, numerous charitable organisations including Fylde & Kirkham Rural Lions; various arms of the Freemasons; Staining in Bloom; 1st Staining Scouts; Weeton Village Hall and Blackpool South Rotary Club.
My wife, Geraldine has supported me in all my charitable quests and we have performed numerous acts to raise funds for Weeton's Village Hall; notably "Mr & Mrs"; Play Your Cards Right"; "Take Your Pick" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"
The Rotary Club offers me the opportunity to act as Santa Claus at Christmas which gives me just as much pleasure as it does the children (and adults) who visit Santa in Hounds Hill, Blackpool.
I couldn't serve the people of Staining & Weeton so effectively without the unwavering, discreet and often unnoticed support of my wife Geraldine and for this I will be forever in her debt.
My charities for my Mayoral year are St Luke's Church Stained Glass Window Appeal, the RNLI Lytham St Annes Shannon appeal and the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. Further details can be found on the charity pamphlet on the link on the right of this page.
