Mayoress of Fylde 2017/18 - Mrs Geraldine Singleton MBE

Hello there.

My name is Geraldine Singleton and I am just bursting with pride at becoming the Mayoress of Fylde for the 2017/2018 Municipal Year.

It never crossed my mind that my husband, Cllr John Singleton JP, would be asked to hold the prestigious office of the Mayor of Fylde and, now that it has happened, we're ready to serve the Fylde to the very best of our ability.

Here's a bit about me.

I was born on 13th November 1954 in Glenroyd Nursing Home, Blackpool.  I was raised and lived in Blackpool for many years and am a true "sand grown 'un".

Once married to John, some 27 years ago, we lived in Warton, Wesham and have lived in Staining for the past 15 years.

After leaving Blackpool Collegiate Grammar School I initially worked for the Midland Bank, now HSBC. A banking career was not for me, I'm afraid, and I left after 12 months.  I subsequently joined the Civil Service in 1974 and served for 37 years.  I worked across most departments, in the early years in customer-facing roles and latterly at the leading edge of transformation projects and people capability, gaining experience and promotion on the way.
My last position was for the DWP working in Whitehall and Westminster frequently deputising to the Senior Civil Service for the final five years of a very challenging and happy career.

I have raised substantial funds for numerous charities over the years both in partnership with John and independently of him.

I worked with both Staining in Bloom and 1st Staining Scouts staying at each organisation for 12 months.

I have had the pleasure of creating and performing numerous acts to raise funds for Weeton's Village Hall; notably "Mr & Mrs"; Play Your Cards Right"; "Take Your Pick" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

Not too keen on heights, in 2008 I underwent a tandem parachute jump from 14,000ft raising much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In 2009 I was recognised for my Public and Voluntary Service in the New Year's Honours and was awarded the MBE. I wear this medal with great pride.

My hobbies include the theatre, cinema, reading, DIY and travel.

During my husband's Mayoral year I will support him wholeheartedly in all that he undertakes. However, being the independent sort, I plan to undertake a Wing Walk thus raising funds for his chosen charities and raising the profile of the office of Fylde Mayor & Mayoress.  The Wing Walk is planned for April 2018 and I will be after your sponsorship...big time!!

In addition to this website we now have a Facebook page and you can follow our exploits and those of the Deputy Mayor & Deputy Mayoress.
