Food Hygiene Training

Information about the types of training available and how to get it.
The Industry Guide to Good Hygiene Practice – Catering Guide defines the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate as an appropriate level of training for people handling high risk foods as part of their normal work. For those in a supervisory or management role training to a higher level, either to Intermediate or Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate, would be deemed appropriate.
Fylde Borough Council does not currently conduct any Basic Food Hygiene Certificate Courses but should the demand and available resources change we will review this. There are a number of providers within the area with both private companies and colleges offering approved courses. These courses are approved by bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene (RIPHH). Assessment is generally by a thirty question, multiple choice, examination paper. The pass mark for the paper is 20 or more correct answers.
For information concerning courses in languages other than English please contact the Food Safety Section. For those with reading or writing difficulties an oral examination can be arranged.
Fylde Borough Council views adequate training as critical to the production of safe, good quality food. This area will tend to be closely scrutinised during inspections.
