Can I claim benefit if I am a full time student?
The rules surrounding claiming benefit if you are a full time student are complicated. Most students cannot get Housing Benefit because the government expects them to use other money like their grant, student loan or access funds to pay their rent.
You may, however, be able to claim housing benefit if you fall into one or more of the categories below:
Looking after a child or young person
Aged 60 or over
Disabled
Receiving Income Support /Jobseeker’s Allowance (Income Based)
Aged less than 19 and in further education but not higher education
