What are councillors entitled to claim in allowances (expenses)?

Councillors receive a basic allowance to cover their work as councillors.  The basic allowance at Fylde is currently £3,500 and the national average is £6,099.

Councillors who take on an additional role within the council - for example leader or member of the cabinet or chair of a scrutiny committee may also receive extra “special responsibility allowance”.

Most authorities limit their councillors to just one special responsibility allowance.

Any councillor can elect not to claim his or her allowance.
