Disabled relief from Council Tax

You or a member of your family may have adapted your home to meet the special needs arising from a disability.

Disabled relief is designed to ensure that disabled peoples are not disadvantaged by having to pay more tax because extra facilities or space are needed due to their disability. You may qualify if one or more of the following statements apply to your home.

  1. An additional bathroom or kitchen.
  2. A room used predominantly by the disabled person which is not a bathroom, a kitchen, or a lavatory. For example, a room for the use and/or storage of kidney dialysis equipment.
  3. Sufficient floor space to permit the use of a wheelchair where this aid is necessary for the disabled person to move around within the dwelling. For example, doorways may have been widened or ramps installed.

The relief is equivalent to one council tax band. For example a property in band c will be charged the band b rate if disabled relief was granted. To apply please use the form below.
