How do I get a Hackney Carriage licence?

At a meeting of the Public Protection Committee in March 2005, the Committee determined that the policy of restricting hackney carriage licences should be amended and replaced with a policy which de-restricted taxi numbers whilst attempting to increase the number of wheelchair accessible vehicles in the Borough.

The Council will now accept applications for Hackney Carriage Licences from persons wishing to licence a vehicle which conforms to the Conditions of Fitness as laid down by the Metropolitan Police and the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986  ie the vehicle must be purpose built (a TXII or Metrocab).  The vehicle should also be less than a year old at the time of the initial application.
