General Information
Housing costs are a large part of most people's expenses. Whether you own your own home or pay rent, you will probably have to pay council tax. If you are on a low income this can be difficult to manage. Council Tax Benefit is a way of providing you with help towards your Council Tax Bill. It is a means-tested benefit administered by the Council for the residents of the Fylde Borough.
The Council wants everyone who would qualify for Council Tax Benefit to claim the help they are entitled to receive. Help is available for anyone who needs assistance with making a claim. It is important to claim straight away as any delay may result in the loss of benefit.
Anyone who has to pay council tax can apply. Local councils run the scheme using rules prescribed by government. If you have received a Council Tax bill and you are the person responsible for paying the tax then you may claim Council Tax Benefit. Benefit entitlement is means-tested so the amount of help that you get depends upon a number of factors such as the level of your income and savings and also on any other people who live with you.
