Extended Payments

You may be entitled to claim up to 4 weeks Housing and Council Tax Benefit at the same rate that you were getting before your circumstances changed. This is called an extended payment or a 4 week run on.

If you or your partner are starting work or increasing the number of hours you work, which is expected to last more than 5 weeks and have been entitled any of the following income related benefits or any combination of the following, continuously for 26 weeks:

Jobseekers allowance (income based)
A combination of Jobseekers Allowance (Contribution Based) ending on Jobseekers Allowance (Income Based)
Income Support
Employment support allowance (Income Related)

you may be able to claim up to 4 weeks Housing and or Council tax benefit at the same level you were before your circumstances changed. This is called an Extended Payment or a 4 week run on.

You may also be eligible for an Extended Payment if you or your partner are starting work or increasing the number of hours you work, which is expected to last more than 5 weeks, and have been entitled to the following or a combination of the following:

Employment Support Allowance (Contribution Based)
Incapacity Benefit
Severe Disablement Allowance

immediately before starting the job etc, if you or your partner were entitled to any of these benefits, neither of you must be on ESA (IR), JSA (IR) or I/S and the entitlement to ESA (C), IB or SDA ceases as a result of starting work etc.

You may also still be entitled to some Housing and or Council Tax Benefit based on your new income details. To speed up the process and help us reassess your benefit as quickly as possible, please provide us with your new income details. For example 5 weekly, 3 fortnightly or 2 monthly pay slips. If you have only just started work and have not received a wage slip yet please request a Certificate of Earnings form which needs to be completed by your employer and returned to us.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to start work and will do our best to help.
