Help and advice for applying for a vacancy at Fylde Council.

Please read the following guidance notes before you fill in your application form. The main points to remember when completing an application form are:

  • Use dark ink or black type (or better still apply on-line)
  • Do a rough draft first. This helps you to avoid making mistakes and allows you to ensure that the information you have given is relevant.
  • Fill in our standard application form. Please do not attached C.V as this will not be considered.
  • Explain exactly how your knowledge, skills, and experience match those in the "essential" and "desirable" columns of the person specification. Where possible, give examples to show us how you match the particular criteria.
  • Read the Job Description and Person Specification carefully. Think about whether your knowledge, skills and experience match those needed in the job and, if so, how you can show this on your form.
  • Fill in your form as fully as possible. The information you give us in your application is the only information we will use when matching your knowledge, skills and experience to a particular vacancy. We cannot make any assumptions about your abilities and do not take into account any previous application's or prior knowledge of you.
  • Don't just repeat your career history - explain the skills you have developed and don't forget to use experience outside of work that has helped you to develop.
  • If possible, make a copy of your completed form for future reference.
  • Don't send the same form for all jobs - pay attention to the specific job requirements listed in the Person Specification for the job you are applying for.
  • Make sure that you return your form to us by the closing date.

The Appointments Procedure

  • Application's that are received after the closing date will not be considered.
  • After the closing date, all application forms are considered for short-listing.
  • Only candidates who meet the essential criteria can be selected for interview.
  • If you have been short-listed you will be invited for interview. If you do not hear anything within three weeks after the closing date you should assume that you have been unsuccessful.
  • We ask you to provide two referees in support of your application. We will ask your referees to provide their references prior to the interview, unless you have specified that they should only be contacted after a successful interview.
  • After interview, you will be informed of the outcome after the selection process has been completed, and have the opportunity to obtain feedback from a member of the interview panel if you wish
