North West in Bloom is an annual competition, that comes under the umbrella of the National Britain in Bloom competition, where areas are judged by horticultural and environmental experts.

In Bloom 2010

Presentation of trophies took place at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on 21st October 2010.

Here is a list of the successful entries and the award they received.

  • Lytham – Gold Medal and category winner
  • St Annes – Silver Gilt Medal
  • Kirkham – Silver Gilt Medal
  • Elswick – Gold Medal and nomination for next year’s Britain in Bloom national awards
  • Freckleton – Gold Medal, category winner and nomination for next year’s Britain in Bloom national awards
  • Wrea Green – Silver Gilt Medal
  • Ansdell – Silver Medal

Discretionary Award

  • Kirkham – Award for best town centre
  • Elswick – Clean Sweep
  • Lytham – Hall Park School environmental award and overall school achievement award
  • Lytham – Best feature in a public place (Floral Windmill)
  • Lytham – St Bedes High School – Commendation for their environmental efforts
  • Lytham – Clifton Arms Hotel – Silver Gilt Medal
  • Ansdell – Ansdell Primary environmental award
  • Freckleton – Strike Lane Primary School environmental award
  • Freckleton – Lama Leach Caravan Park – Silver Gilt Medal

All the competing areas have a pro-active community group that steers the improvements and raises funds.
