Forget sandcastles, can you build the best sand fish?
On Sunday 09 August the beach next to St Annes Pier will be over run with octopi, fish, shells and dolphins – all made out of sand as Fylde Borough Council searches for the best sand artist in the Fylde.

As part of its celebration of National Marine Week the council, in partnership with the Wildlife Trust, is challenging residents to build the best marine themed sand sculpture they can in order to scoop the top prize. With prizes for different age groups anyone can enter.
Anne Heslop, Fylde’s Sand Dunes Officer, said: “There have been a number of activities from beach walks to shell finding competitions run over the last week but this one is one of the most fun. Sand castle building is a major part of enjoying the beach and this is something the whole family can take part in. Even the most amateur sand castle builder is in with a chance.”
Registration for the competition is from 12pm on the day with judges making their decisions at 3pm. Any size or design of sculpture is acceptable as long as it has a nautical theme and buckets and spade are not essential but may help.
