Grants for Home Insulation

Did you know you can lose up to 25% of the heat in your house?

Did you know you can lose up to 25% of the heat in your house through the roof – and 35% through the walls? That’s a heck of a drain on your heating bill!

That’s why Fylde Low Waste and Energy (FLoWE) and Fylde Borough Council are committed to helping improve the energy efficiency of private properties in the borough.

FLoWE supports the Government’s initiative to drive down the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2010 and has sourced substantial funding to help all residents to do the same. And they’ve teamed up with Kirkham-based Home Insulation Service (H.I.S.) to offer residents advice and grants towards home insulation.

Cllr Cheryl Little, Cabinet Member for Social Wellbeing, explains, ”This week Lytham and Freckleton residents will receive a letter through their door detailing how to take advantage of the scheme, which is FREE if you are over 70 or in receipt of certain benefits.

“Many people already have some form of insulation but we can help check just how energy efficient your home is. I heartily agree with this scheme – it’s about saving the environment and helping our residents to save money.”

Home Insulation Services surveyors will also call at properties to offer lots of free energy saving advice and confirm what residents are entitled to under the scheme.

For anyone not in receipt of benefits, there’s a special price of just £99 for loft insulation and £99 for cavity wall insulation, subject to a survey and grant funding.

Last year, a pilot of the project rolled out in Park and Central Wards in St Annes saw 486 properties fitted with either loft and/or cavity wall insulation. This means that from that project 633 tonnes CO2 were saved while residents will make approximately £95,000 annual saving of their fuel bills.

Andrew Loynd, FLoWE Project Manager, said: “Insulating your home can help to benefit the environment as well as reduce condensation; make your home warmer and easier to heat and save you money on your heating bills.

“The scheme offers a FREE inspection of your property to determine what help can be offered and a review of your circumstances to see what financial help can be offered.”

If you have any queries about this scheme, please contact Fylde Borough Council on 01253 658 658.
