Following the success of last year’s event, The Friends of St. Annes Library will host the SECOND ANNUAL PARTY IN THE GARDEN on Saturday, 12 September 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the St. Annes Library. St. Annes Mayor, Cllr. Tony Ford, will open the festivities, which will include games, storytelling, tombola, books, demonstrations, plants, and refreshments.

The theme of this year’s Party will be LOCAL HEROES, as the Friends want to celebrate the difference local people can make in their own communities. To allow our young people to get to know local heroes, there will be MEET YOUR LOCAL HERO sessions lasting 20 minutes each where the public will get the opportunity to speak and interact with a variety of local heroes such as a police air support officer, fireman, and a member of the RNLI among others. The sessions will be held between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Storytelling and craft activity sessions will also be held for the children throughout the day from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. and from 2 to 3 p.m.

One of the highlights of the day will be when the plans for the community reading garden – the “Reading With A View” project – will be handed over by Cty Cllr Tim Ashton.

Another first for the Party In The Garden will be a Reading Quiz. For just £1, anyone attending the Party will have the opportunity to take home and answer the 100 hundred question quiz, with the winner being awarded a £15 National Book Token. All quizzes must be returned to the St. Annes Library by 30 September 2009, and the winner will be announced at the next Friends of St. Annes Library meeting on 7 October.

Throughout the day, a membership table will be available for anyone wanting to renew their Friends membership or for those wishing to become a Friend of the St. Annes Library.
With everyone’s support, the St. Annes Library Community Reading Garden will be another step closer to becoming a reality.
