We will be kicking off celebration's with a pancake race along the Promenade at St Annes and a Fairtrade Flower Fantasy.
The Local Strategic Partnership has been the steering group behind the borough achieving Fairtrade status showing its support for produce that promotes better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. The borough was awarded Fairtrade status in June last year and is now gearing up to take part in this years Fairtrade fortnight of activities.
To kick off two weeks of activity based around encouraging residents to go Fairtrade a pancake race has been organised on St Annes Promenade on Shrove Tuesday 24 February where local hoteliers and members of the Local Strategic Partnership will be tossing pancakes made from Fairtrade ingredients.
The event will take place at 11.00am next Tuesday starting at St Annes Pier.
It’s not just food that can be purchased in support of the Fairtrade ethos. Flowers too can be sourced from Fairtrade producers and to show what can be done the Fylde’s own Jane and Jason Thompson of Flower Design will be demonstrating their skills and showing guests how to make the most from their flowers. To accompany the evening Fairtrade wines can be tasted with expert guidance.
Rev Glyn Eatock chair of Fylde’s Fairtrade Steering Group said: “It was great news to be given Fairtrade status for the Borough last year and it is our on going responsibility to continue to spread the message that Fairtrade is the fairest produce to buy. This national campaign is a fun way to remind people and we are planning some great activities to really encourage people to buy Fairtrade.”
The Flower demonstration and wine tasting evening takes place at the Lindum Hotel on Thursday 26 February at 7pm. Tickets are £5 and will be sold on a first come first served basis. Tickets available from Christine Miller at the Town Hall or telephone 01253 658441
