A historic tram shelter in Ansdell is to be reopened after a much needed refurbishment by Fylde Borough Council.
The tram shelter on Marine Drive and Clifton Drive has been returned to its former glory and turned into a fully working shelter complete with new lighting. It was originally built in 1923 and serves residents in both Ansdell and Fairhaven.
Councillor David Eaves, Cabinet Member for Environmental Wellbeing, Ward Councillor for Ansdell and the Councillor behind the drive to renovate the shelter said: “The shelter is well known by the people of Ansdell and is a piece of the area’s history that should be preserved. I hope the shelter will once again become an attraction to residents who remember the days when the shelter was used.”
Those using the newly renovated shelter will receive an extra treat as they wait for their bus with an informative exhibition about the history of the Lytham St Anne’s tramway which used to run along Clifton Drive some 70 years ago.
