Golf fun takes to the streets
As Fylde welcomes the golfers for the Ricoh Women’s British Open at the end of this month tourism bosses are laying on a weekend of golf themed street entertainment to keep the buzz of the competition alive.

Mike Hancock - Crooning Captain
Through funding from the Local Strategic Partnership, the Council has organised the weekend of acts with the ‘Fools Paradise agency.’ The golf themed entertainment has a humorous twist to keep the enthusiasm for the sport running throughout the weekend. From giant golfers to eccentric inventors and mad keen girl guides there is something different for everyone. Some of the street based acts are static whereas others take their audience on a guided tour of St Annes or Lytham as they turn the streets in to a living stage and their act develops with the surroundings and people they encounter.
Acts include:

Reckless Invention - The Golfers
Swank with Adjudicators
All are encouraged to go for gold in a range of daft time trials and silly races, backed by tannoy announcements and completed with an award ceremony boasting its own plinth.
Reckless Invention Comedy Golfers
A stylish stilted 1930s gentleman golfer and his constant bouncing caddy companion recreate the game on your streets. They tee off with a full set of useable giant clubs aiming for the 18th hole. Watch the birdies, bogeys and pars as the squidgy golf balls are whacked into oblivion.
Curious Cargo Railway Porters
Travel back in time with The Lost Luggage Porters to a world of monochrome, wonderment and curiosity. Join these silent movie characters in their quest to find the railway station and experience the bizarre contents of their cargo along the way.

Swank - Be Prepared
Dr Southall with The Flatulator
Dr Southall engages on a transport of delight on his unique mechanical creation. The Flatulator is a creation that could revolutionise transport as we know it. With an unprecedented ability to produce vast amounts of flammable gas, flapping wings, speeds equalling those of a common snail and Dr Southall himself at the wheel, this is a totally unique performance.
Mike Hancock Hip Hop Cop
A policeman sings and raps his way along the beat in this eye-catching comedy musical walkabout… It’s not often you see a cop rap “Gangsta’s Paradise” with the local youth, “Face the music and dance “ with the older generation and sing “Baby Face “ to the very young. A big hit at festivals even with the police!
Matt Barnard Man of Tweed / juggling golfer
A comedy show in which the character changes from a skilful, sophisticated country gent, beautifully attired in bespoke tweed suit, to a string vest-wearing yob sporting Union Jack shorts and complete with knotted handkerchief on his head. The Man of Tweed performs artistic and cultural ball spinning skills until his clothes are ripped off to reveal the truth beneath. The final stunt is one not to be missed!
Artizani with Farmer Giles
The Farmer leans over his five bar gate and gives advice on any subject from farming (about which he knows little) to philosophy (about which he knows less)
Mike Hancock Crooning Captain
Join the captain at his mobile barrel bar for live songs, visual tomfoolery and unpredictable comedy. Great music with a comic twist as seen at Cowes Week and places much further inland!
Artizani with Punt
Two Oxbridge undergrads are off for a relaxing punt. Blissfully unaware of reality and physics, the boat drifts down busy streets and they regale and serenade the public.
Curious Cargo Lollypop Ladies
Fluorescent and effervescent; the “64th emergency service”; the “luminous hand – and foot – of the law”, (or so they like to think). The Lollipop Patrol are here to help and hinder in equal measures; cross them at your peril!
Rex Boyd Robin Hood show
Comedy, pantomime, melodrama. Rex narrates and directs the story while three volunteers act it out on stage. This show a sure-fire winner.
Reckless Invention with Break
Turbo and Dai break-dance to old 80s classics like Paul Hardcastle’s NNNNNN Nineteen and the theme tune from Beverley Hills Cop. It’s time to get that lino out, pledge it up and windmill like you just don't care.
Artizani Stilt Walkabout
A pair of extra tall comedy cricket players with giant sized bats and a sense of fun. Always looking for a game and somebody to play with. So, if you need a rest from the golf, come and look for some cricket!
The acts will be performed in the evenings throughout the weekend of the Open competition between 30 July and 01 August. They will be starting from different locations in the town centres of St Annes and Lytham at intervals between 7pm and 9pm. There is no charge for the entertainment but be prepared for a walk for some of the performances.
The Ricoh Women's British Open takes place over 4 days from Thursday 30th July until Sunday 2nd August 2009 at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club.
