Another park up to scratch
Yet another of Fylde’s green spaces has been spruced up thanks to the input of local residents living around the Barnfield Memorial Gardens in Kirkham.

The process of refurbishing the park started last year when £200,000 from the Big Lottery Fund was granted to Fylde Borough Council to provide play provision. Local residents and council officers had been working for around two years to decide what projects were needed for the park and had already identified a need for a play area for teenagers.
Funding of £75,000 was made available to the Council’s parks team from the initial Big Lottery funding and at the start of June work on building the state of the art Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) began. The facility is now open to the public and will be officially opened on 03 August 2009
Councillor Susan Fazackerley, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “These multi-use games areas have been developed all over the borough during the last few years and their benefits are numerous. They provide a range of sporting opportunities in one confined and safe space and this gives our residents and, particularly our young people, somewhere to go and enjoy themselves taking part in a healthy activity.
“This latest venture is an example of our on-going commitment to improve our parks and green spaces and I hope everyone will enjoy this new addition to a special memorial garden.”
