Institute digs deep for energy efficiency
The next big development at Ashton Gardens has begun as three 300 feet deep holes are drilled into the ground near the site of the Ashton Institute.

The holes will allow the installation of a ground source heat pump to heat the Institute. Pipes will be sunk into the holes, 2/3 size of Blackpool Tower, and use heat, taken from the earth, to provide warmth for the Institute instead of using electric heaters or expensive radiators.
The energy efficient and sustainable system is being paid for through the grant of £15,000 from the Lancashire County Council fund which was only accessible through the Town Council who have then donated the cash to Fylde Borough Council in order to carry out the unique works.
Work on the institute has already started with the foundations already laid.
Councillor Susan Fazackerley, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “This is another exciting stage in the regeneration of Ashton Gardens, where things are visibly moving forwards on a daily basis.”
The ground source heat pump is a wonderful, energy-saving means of heating the new building and we are grateful to St Annes Town Council for facilitating the grant funding for this work.”
The drills making the holes will be on site for a few days.
