Call in Early For Housing Advice
News Article
That’s the message from Fylde Borough Council as an announcement, that the government are offering a national mortgage rescue scheme, has caused an increase in enquiries to the Council’s Housing Advice Service.
As the recession grips the country steps are being taken which are designed to help homeowners avoid losing their homes. The Mortgage Rescue Scheme, launched in January this year, is one such step. However many people think that the help is instantly available and are leaving it until the last minute, when there are no other options available to them, before they seek advice on the scheme.
The scheme is also only available if there are children in the household, a homeowner is pregnant or if a member of the household is vulnerable through old age or disability.
Help is at hand through other schemes and services and the council’s advice team can offer assistance in accessing welfare grants or talking residents through various procedures.
Councillor Patricia Fieldhouse, Cabinet Member for Social Wellbeing, said: “If people are being affected by the credit crunch and feel there is any risk whatsoever that they could face difficulty in meeting their mortgage payments or even paying their rent it is essential that they seek advice early. This advice can be from an independent advisor or through the service at the council.
“It is understandable that people will not want to look in to getting help until the last minute as our own pride makes us want to try to get out of a situation ourselves. But leave it too late and the situation can be a lot worse. There is no harm in finding out what other options are available before you have to use them.”
If you are having difficulty with housing or face homelessness or are having trouble making rent or mortgage payments to can make an appointment to see the housing advice service by calling 01253 658658 or by visiting Fylde direct on Clifton Drive in St Annes.
