The decision was taken by Lancashire County Council on Monday to adopt the blue route linking the M55 from Wyndyke to Norcross, diverting heavy traffic away from Weeton and Singleton. Efforts can now be concentrated on detailed designs, negotiations with partners and drawing up bids for funding.
The scheme, estimated in 2004, when the plan was developed, to cost £112million, was chosen as it offered greater transport benefits to north-south traffic on the Fylde Coast. An option preferred by Fylde, Blackpool and Wyre Councillors.
Councillor John Coombes, Leader of Fylde Borough Council said: “We are delighted that this Blue route has been recognised as a priority for the Fylde Coast. I now hope that the route across the moss receives equal recognition as it will open up the Fylde Coast from North to South, making the journey, which normally takes an hour, much shorter.”
The decision means that the route will be protected against development until funds are available for its construction.
