In a further bid to boost trade in St Annes Fylde Borough Council is offering some areas of the town square for rent to help small traders and encourage more shoppers to the area.

A number of the domed pavilions in the award winning regenerated St Annes Square are being offered along with a selection of the pavement seating areas and the well known Tourist Information Centre building. The idea is to encourage small traders, who may not be able to afford to take up a full shop in the current economic crisis, whilst helping local businesses by encouraging more people to the area.

Councillor Roger Small, Cabinet Member for Corporate Resources and Finance said: “We need to boost the trade in the area and we have the resources available to us to help new businesses develop or businesses already in the town to prosper. These sites are prime locations that are currently going un-used. It is only right that we take advantage of every opportunity we have.

When the town centre regeneration ideas were first proposed it was envisaged that a number of the features created would be let off to increase the offer and vibrancy for visitors to the town. The Tourist Information centre is a great space for a retail outlet so I’m sure there will be plenty of interest in it.”

The Tourist Information Centre will soon be vacated by the Council staff that are currently based there and the information service moved to the Town Hall reception. This will leave the 475 square foot building available and the Council and Blackpool Transport who own half of the building can generate extra income from the rent. A business will be able to take on the Let of the building for business purposes at a cost of around £12,500 per year.

Businesses that are interested in these areas will need to secure other permissions that may be required such as planning permission, in which case the Council will consult with adjacent businesses as part of any applications received.

Any businesses interested in renting the Tourist Information building or one of the other sites in St Annes Square can find more information by contacting Gary Sams on 01253 658462.
