St Anne’s Mayor Barbara Mackenzie presses the right buttons to launch the Town Council’s new website.
St. Anne’s Town Council has officially launched its new website this week as it seeks to extend its contacts with the local community.

The website, developed by Simon Musson and Tim Firth at Falstaff Computing in St. Anne’s contains many interesting features, the most notable and popular one being the calendar of events.
This provides a central hub for the community where anyone can see, at a glance, the up and coming events in St Anne’s. Another bonus is that the calendar is updated by the community, for the community.

Community based groups and organisations can published all their forthcoming events and meetings for free on the diary once they have registered with the website and been provided with a user ID and password. Private organisations can get a unique user ID and password for the calendar for a small fee.
The newly developed website carries all the Town Council’s Agendas and Minutes so anyone can find out the latest issues that are coming to the council’s attention. It also provides information on the town's seven councillors and puts names to faces, which makes it easier for the public to relate to.
Anyone wishing to apply for a Community Grant can find guidance information and application forms. This year the Town Council have allocated £6,000 in support of local projects.
Artist Michelle Howe, based in St Anne’s until very recently, has several of her line drawings featured on the site and the Town Council would love to hear from other locally-based artists who would like their work featured on the website.
The Latest News page provides all the latest community news of St. Anne’s, updated weekly by organisations in and around St Annes. All of which can be downloaded in pdf format from the website. The Twinning Association has made good use of the site to share its news and successes locally and nationally.
The website site has undergone several months of development and refinement and further pages will be added to it as it evolves in response to new opportunities and the needs of the community.
One big bonus is that site has been provided FREE to the Council. The managers of the site are recouping their costs by selling advertising on the site. The adverts appear randomly according to the page chosen so each page appears to have slightly different ‘look’ every time you log on. Local businesses can advertise on the site and advert statistics are recorded concerning click-thru rate and impressions.
This website also provides a wealth of information on the town's organisations, history and community. Website visitors can view pictures of St Annes in the Gallery and more importantly send in their own pictures for addition to the site.
And for those wanting to know whether to take a brolly or not, the website provides a localised weather forecast too.
