The Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Monument at Headroomgate and St. Annes Road West is set to get a landscaping makeover, thanks to the Green Partnership Awards; it was announced by St. Annes in Bloom coordinator, Cllr. Fabian Craig-Wilson.
St. Annes in Bloom, working with the Parks Department of Fylde Borough Council, will see the current planting removed. The new scheme will introduce Lancashire red roses, lavender and ceanothus to the site. The roses were thought to be especially fitting, as a red rose is a feature of the monument itself. The three Silver Birch trees will remain and receive the addition of a lovely Witch Hazel, which will provide much needed winter colour.
The Green Partnership Awards scheme is a partnership between the Environment Agency, United Utilities, local councils, and Lancashire County Council. The scheme supports practical environmental improvement projects as well as projects that develop awareness and educate on environmental issues. It is open to all groups and organisations as well as individuals. Green Partnership supports projects that have a lasting environmental benefit, involve the community and are a benefit to that community, local wildlife, and the landscape. The grants are available for up to £500.
Cllr. Craig-Wilson would like to hear from anyone who would enjoy lending a hand, or trowel, on planting day. A member of the parks department at Fylde Borough Council will be on hand for the planting to offer advice and assistance. If you would like to participate, you can contact Cllr. Craig-Wilson at: cllr.fwilson@fylde.gov.uk
A planting day will be set as soon as all of the plants have been locally sourced, ordered and an arrival date scheduled.
