Keep our pitches clean POOch
Two local footballers have lent their support to the Council’s Pooch campaign after experiencing first hand the problem of dog mess in public places.

Jamie Milligan and Gavin McCann, with their pet dogs, encourage dog walkers to clean up.
Gavin McCann (Bolton Premier League Footballer), and Jamie Milligan (Captain of Fleetwood) both live locally and run the Milligan and McCann Soccer School which provides football training for local young people in a variety of locations such as Hove Road Park in St Annes. During their training sessions they have become increasingly aware of the amount of dog faeces that can hinder their progress.
Jamie said: “This is a great idea as I’ve been playing football a number of times with my boy and had to stop because of all the dog dirt. People need to be made aware of this because it’s a shame for all the local children not to have somewhere safe and clean to play without worrying about standing or falling in the dog dirt.

POOch says bag it logo
“It seems people are becoming less and less concerned with keeping these great spaces useable. I see many people who do pick up after the dogs and I would say that it is only a minority that don’t - but it is still too much. I don’t see why people find it so hard to just bend down and pick the mess up in a plastic bag – it takes seconds – I do it with my dog.”
The POOch campaign was launched in response to increased complaints to the Council about the issue.
