St Annes Beach Passes Quality Tests

St Annes Beach
The beach around St Annes pier has picked up a prestigious awards just in time for summer.
This year’s Blue Flag awards and Quality Coast awards have been announced with the beach around St Annes pier picking up one of the prestigious awards just in time for summer.
The beach has been granted one of the quality coast awards bringing it up to par with the other 113 beaches that got the same award. Seventy One other beaches around the country got the blue flag for excellence with this year’s results being hailed as one of the best on record for the quality of Britain’s beaches.
The beach in St Annes was re-entered for the judging of the awards after previous year’s inspections said the beach did not come up to scratch. The quality of sea water was blamed for failing to reach the standard but Council officials maintained that floods, before the tests, meant surface run off from nearby land tainted the quality.
Chris Holland, Leisure Manager at Fylde Borough Council said: “It was unfortunate that the testing last year fell at a time when pollution was at its highest. A few weeks later and we would have been given it last year. However we are thrilled that our hard work has paid off and we have managed to bring the beach in line with the high standards required nationally. We can really hold our heads up and say that our beach is now amongst the top in the country.”
Fylde Borough Council has worked tirelessly to keep the beach around the pier clean and tidy to benefit the visitors to the area. The award marks a significant turning point in the drive to make the beaches better.
Other beaches on the Fylde Coast that got a Quality Coast award include Blackpool South and Morecambe South.
