Sporting Hope for Village of Orphans
Fylde Borough Council’s Sports Development team has spread its expertise overseas to help orphaned and abandoned children in Morocco.

The team were approached by Mike Walker of Calvary Christian Fellowship who works at the council and, in his spare time, acts as a link between the church and a family within ‘Village of Hope’ in Morocco. They were asked for advice in setting up a basket ball facility in the village which provides homes for orphaned and abandoned Moroccan children living in the Ain Leuh area of the Country (in the Atlas mountains). They were able to provide templates and guides that were sent to the community through the church and the children there are now enjoying their own court to play on.
Claire Grant, Fylde Borough Council’s Community Development Manager, said: “We help set up games and courts in our play areas here in Fylde so the help we were asked for was nothing out of the ordinary to us. We were happy to help with advice about setting up the court which we hope will benefit the community there.

“We have found that the more sporting activity can be provided for young people the better their quality of life can be.”
Village of Hope is a Children's home in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco near Ain Leuh. It is committed to providing a loving and caring community of families for children, offering security and hope, and enabling them to be fully integrated into the larger Moroccan community.
Dan Galland, a member of a family working at the Village, said: “Thank you so much for sending the basketball court stencil it has made a massive difference.” Mike Walker added: “It may have been a simple act for the Team but it’s obviously made a lasting impact on the children giving them an extra sporting activity to enjoy
