Sport is just the trick for Halloween treats

Halloween Pumpkin
The Ghouls will be out in force over Halloween but in Fylde they will be heading for fun rather than fright thanks to some special sporting activity.
On Friday October 30 a Fun Day for children and young people aged 0-16 years has been organised at Kirkham Memorial Gardens from 1 pm – 5 pm. Activities include mobile high ropes, a giant inflatable slide and bouncy castle, face painting, circus skills and apple bobbing. At 3:30 pm there will be a fancy dress and pumpkin carving competition and from 4 pm – 5 pm Dracula’s disco takes over.
The aim, as well as encouraging young people to indulge in more sports, is to use the activities to remind the young people and parents of the safety messages associated with the festivities. These include being accompanied and supervised by a parent when out trick or treating. Fylde Council’s play workers will be supervising all the spooky activities on the Friday.

Bryan Ward, Community Safety Manager for Fylde, said: “Halloween provides lots of family fun and parents are being reminded to ensure their children are safe at all times by accompanying them on Halloween outings. Not only does this help keep the children safe but it also ensures they are behaving appropriately when, for example, trick or treating in their community.
“Hopefully the family fun atmosphere that the spooky sports event will emphasise will carry over in to the festivities.”
In addition, Oak Tree Children’s Centre is running ‘Supporting Fylde Families’ in their ‘Stay and Play’ sessions throughout the October half term. Play workers will be present at the sessions, delivering an appropriate activity. The sessions will be held at Oak Tree Children’s Centre.
On Tuesday 27 October from 9:30 am - 11:30 am there will be Stay and Play for childminders and their children. On Wednesday 28 October from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm Stay and Play for parents and carers with children with additional needs will be held. And on Thursday 29 October from 10:30 am - 12 noon there will be Baby Stay and Play for babies aged 0-2 years.
Councillor Susan Fazackerley, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: "Fylde Borough Council is committed to providing sporting activities for our young people all year round and these Hallowe'en events are an extra bit of fun for the youngsters at this dreary time of year, whilst carrying an important message about safety".
