Answers to these questions could well be found on a Guided Walk around historic Heyhouses which is taking place on Saturday 12th September. Led by local historian and author Peter Shakeshaft, the walk will provide an interesting insight into community life in Heyhouses covering several centuries. Participants will also have the opportunity to discover the history behind the names of highways and byways and key buildings in the area and learn about local characters.

St. Anne's Town Council are planning to run a series of Guided Walks around the town so that residents and visitors can have the opportunity to learn more about the area in which they live. This planned walk around historic Heyhouses is the first of what the council hopes will become a regular feature in the town's calendar. Whilst St. Anne's itself is a 'new' town', Heyhouses is steeped in history as evidenced by Peter Shakeshaft's book - St. Anne's on the Sea: A History, which makes fascinating reading.

With the proposals for housing developments in the Heyhouses area very much in the news at present, this guided walk will provide a poignant reminder as to what life was like in earlier times and give an indication of the social and economic changes that have taken place to give us the Heyhouses of today.

The Town Council has plans to offer Guided Walks around St. Anne's in the coming months based on the Town Trail developed by the Lytham St Annes Civic Society. The St. Anne's Town Trail is currently being re written to reflect changes to the town and to update the illustrations.

The walk is free but numbers are limited so prospective 'walkers' are asked to book a place through the St Anne's Town Clerk, Philip Jackson, 01253 358826 philmu71@aol.com
