Admiral fined
A pub company has been fined £8,000 with £750 costs after an environmental health visit showed that there was no hot water available within one of its pubs.
Blackpool magistrates heard on 26 March 2010 that Fylde Council environmental health officers had visited the Admiral on Clifton Drive, St Annes, in March 2009.
The visit revealed no hot water for cleaning hands – and hot water within the kitchen.
Pub bosses then closed the pub voluntarily and discovered that the boiler’s pilot light was being blown out by the air extraction system in the kitchen.
The pub took action to temporarily reinstate a hot water supply and then moved the boiler to ensure a permanent supply of hot water. The pub then reopened.
Punch Pub Company Ltd, the pub’s owner, pleaded guilty to two breaches of food hygiene regulations relating to there being no hot water for cleaning.
