A huge operation has begun to ensure that all of Fylde’s voters appear on the electoral register.
People who aren’t on the register will not be able to vote in council elections, any General Election or local by-elections.
Electoral registration forms have been posted to all of Fylde’s 37,000 homes. Residents are being urged to return them promptly to ensure they don’t lose their vote.
Roger Davies, Fylde Council’s electoral services manager, said: ‘If you don’t vote, you will have no say in how the council is run. If you’re not on the register, you can’t vote. It’s as simple as that.
‘We want to register everyone who is eligible to vote. The forms we have sent to householders contain details of people we know about who are eligible to vote – but people move house and we have to keep details up to date.’
Householders are being asked to check the form to see if details are correct. People can confirm if there have been no changes by telephone, by returning the form by post or hand, by text message or via the internet. The form includes all the necessary contact details.
If there are changes, residents should fill in the relevant section on the form, sign it and return it in the pre-paid envelope.
Council employees will knock on the doors of people who haven’t been in touch in September and help them fill in the form.
Roger added: ‘It’s a very simple form but people need to understand how important it is.
‘Everyone has the right to vote and we don’t want anyone to miss out.’
