Crematorium and chapel reopen
Fylde’s crematorium and chapel will open on Tuesday after a major refurbishment.
The finishing touches are now being applied to the facility which closed in July for the #900,000 upgrade.
The chapel now has a new ceiling, new waiting room furniture, replacement windows, new curtains, a smartened-up entrance and refurbished pews. A new footpath has been constructed along the length of the entrance driveway.
Work has also included installation of new cremators and pollution filters to meet new environmental regulations aimed at reducing mercury and other emissions.
Councillor Cheryl Little, Fylde Council cabinet member for Social Wellbeing, said: ‘Everything has gone to plan to make the chapel a suitably dignified place for family and friends to pay their last respects.
‘The facility hadn’t been refurbished since 1994 and it was due for a refit.
‘Everyone deserves somewhere quiet, dignified and contemplative at such times and that is what they now have.’
During the closure, families have travelled to neighbouring crematoria at Carleton and Preston.
