More visitors for Fylde
The recent Lytham Proms and Battle of Britain weekend were such successes that councillors have said they want to run similar events next year.
More than 30,000 people attended the Lytham Green spectacular – more than twice as many as expected.
Councillor Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “It was a huge boost to the visitor economy and one we would like to build on.
“As a tourist destination, we need to improve the events programme to attract both day-visitors and those wishing to stay for a longer break. This has been a wonderful start.
“We’re pencilling in 19, 20 and 21 August next year for a 1940s wartime weekend. It is intended to hold a proms concert on another day. Ultimately it will depend on finance, but we are very keen to do it again.
“It wouldn’t have a Battle of Britain theme as that was chosen this year because it was the 70th anniversary of that event. However, we would like some kind of wartime theme as they are so very popular and we’ll be contacting the military re-enactment societies very soon.”
