FYLDE Council is launching a fight to save a threatened recycling centre.
Councillor David Eaves, Fylde Council’s portfolio holder for Environmental Wellbeing, is to lobby County Hall to save Everest Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre in St Annes.
The centre is threatened by a county council drive to cut costs. If it closes, Fylde will have only one centre – and householders will face long drives to use it.
Councillor Eaves said: “I’ll be writing to County Hall about this. The centre is a great and well-used facility for Fylde residents. If it closes, Fylde will only have the centre at Saltcotes Road in Lytham – and that will mean a long drive for many residents.
“Some people will find it impossible to get there – and that will lead to the possibility of more fly-tipping.
“We are supposed to be trying to reduce our carbon footprint, so we shouldn’t be closing down such well-used recycling centres.”
Lancashire County Council is currently reviewing the future role and provision of Household Waste and Recycling Centres – and Everest Road has been listed as one being considered for closure.
