Residents of Lytham are to gain a new pedestrian crossing after a meeting of Fylde’s Lancashire Local committee.

Residents of Preston Road in Lytham have asked for the new crossing for two years. The scheme, near the bottom of Meadow Lane, got the go-ahead at the 26 January meeting.

The crossing will involve a pedestrian “build out”, new parking bays, dropped kerbs and a realignment of the existing cycle path.

Councillor Brenda Ackers said: “This is great news for residents who have been battling for years for this.

“There are many children in the area and parents need to know they are safe.

“The road is wide at that point and motorists have just entered a 30mph zone from a 50mph zone.

“The parking bays will also make it safer for people parking their cars while narrowing the road slightly to slow traffic.”
