Summer cycling for all

A great summer of cycling is in the pipeline with 10 biking sessions planned for the summer holidays.
Every corner of Fylde is catered for – and activities include learner sessions, “pedal and picnic” outings, family bike rides, BMX daredevilry and DIY repairs to your bike.
The programme has been put together by Ian Brookes, Fylde Council’s cycling development officer. Ian was appointed to boost cycling in the area earlier this year after organisations including the NHS, Sport England, the School Sports partnership and Lancashire County Council offered to fund his work.
He said: “Fylde is ideal for cycling as it is flat and there are already a lot of cycle lanes.
“Parents always struggle to find things for their children to do in the summer holidays – and there’s nothing better than cycling. Once children learn to cycle safely, it is a skill that will stay with them for life.
“It’s a great way to get about and a great way to get healthy whatever your age. We now have cycling activities suitable for most people and I will be adding regularly to the programme.”
Some sessions are specifically for children, but most are open to cyclists and would-be cyclists of all ages:
