A man has been banned from being drunk in Kirkham centre after being given the area’s first interim Drinking Banning Order (DBO).
Dean John Ford (18), from Kirkham, was banned by Blackpool magistrates on Thursday after they heard of his poor behaviour when intoxicated.
The ban followed a recent record of incidents in which he has become aggressive – and even assaulted someone – while being under the influence of alcohol in Kirkham centre.
He is now banned until 30 June 2010 when there will be a full hearing at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court which will consider the possibility of extending the ban.
Pc Beverley Davis, community beat manager, said: “This is good timing for Kirkham Club Day but it will continue for a few weeks after that, giving respite to the long-suffering public of Kirkham.
“Ford is quite a reasonable and amenable young man when sober, but he behaves atrociously when he has been drinking.
“He is getting a very firm message: he has to behave. He is not banned from the town centre, or even from drinking – but he must not get drunk. If he does, he will be arrested and taken back to court where he will be fined anything up to £2,500.
“This is the first DBO in Fylde and only the fourth in Lancashire and has been granted after close working between police and Fylde Council. Members of the public have to be protected from such loutish behaviour.”
