The new children’s play area in Lowther Gardens will be officially opened at 10.30am on Tuesday 6 July.
Councillor Liz Oades, Fylde mayor, will officially open the £75,000 play area which includes safety surfaces, a climbing frame, a roundabout, swings and a “swinging basket” which can be used by a number of children at the same time.
A National Lottery grant of £65,000 partly met the total £75,000 cost.
Councillor Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “The old playground was run down and the equipment no longer met safety standards.
“This new play area is an excellent piece of design work. It is colourful and modern and will be enjoyed by thousands of children over the years to come – including disabled children as some pieces of equipment have been designed with them in mind.
“It can be enjoyed by all members of the family as we have included a grassed area for picnics.
“In addition to the £65,000 capital grant, the lottery also funded two part-time play workers for three years. This has had and will continue to have a massive impact for children in Fylde who have benefited from many opportunities to play.”
