Award for beach
Flags will be flying at a popular Fylde beach this summer following an announcement that the attraction has won national recognition.
The section of St Annes beach between the lifeboat slipway, the pier and north of the North Promenade car park was today given the Quality Coast Award by Keep Britain Tidy.
Leisure staff at Fylde Council had to show inspectors that the beach is well managed, clean and safe. The range of criteria included water quality, pollution and provision of toilets and bus routes.
Councillor Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “Residents know how good this beach is and this award confirms it.
“Only 111 beaches in the whole country are of this standard and Fylde Council works tremendously hard to keep it looking so good.
“Keep Britain Tidy has given us a large flag to fly at the beach. It will be a clear signal that St Annes is an ideal place to visit and has all that is needed for a traditional seaside holiday.”
