Parks staff are cockahoop after school grounds that they maintain won an award in Lancashire’s Best Kept Village Awards.
The Fylde Council staff maintain the grounds at Barnacre Road Primary School in Longridge – and last week the school heard that its grounds had won the School Grounds Award.
Not many people realise it, but Fylde Council’s parks staff bring nearly £250,000 a year into council coffers by winning contracts across Lancashire.
Mark Wilde, the council’s parks and leisure manager, said: “We are paid for looking after the grounds at 23 schools, maintaining open spaces for Wesham and Staining Parish Councils, and looking after the grounds at all Lancashire fire stations and also for a number of housing associations.
“We win this work on the basis of value for money and quality which is a great tribute to council staff.
“The money goes towards keeping Council Tax bills down and also subsidises work in Fylde Council’s own parks.”
