3-D cinema and a fifth screen will be coming to St Annes after a new buyer was found for the Island complex.
Paul Jervis, the new leaseholder, already owns three cinemas across the country and will reopen the cinema some time this summer.
The café, giftshop and fairground are already open and Mr Jervis plans to seek new tenants for the amusement arcade and restaurant. He is also seeking talks with Stanley Leisure about the future of the casino.
Paul Walker, Fylde Council’s Director of Strategic Development Services, said: “This is fantastic news for residents and visitors and will give the promenade a real buzz.
“We’ve reopened the pool and got the gardens back into tip-top shape – and the tens of thousands of visitors this Easter prove that the area is as popular as ever.
“It’s really exciting to see an experienced cinema operator come to town with all the latest technology. 3-D vision is all the rage in cinemas and even many big cities don’t have it, so it will be a real boost for St Annes.”
The lease was assigned last Wednesday from Carr Royd Leisure Ltd (in administration) to PDJ Management (Lytham) Ltd. The new tenant is a subsidiary of C and R Cinemas Ltd.
Paul Jervis, PDJ owner, said: “I plan on reopening the cinema in July and will introduce the latest digital technology and a fifth screen.
“It will be completely digital which will allow the introduction of 3-D cinema in the future. Our experience in our other cinemas shows how popular the new technology is and how it can attract audiences from miles around.
“The promenade is a great location for any leisure business and I look forward to a long association with the area.”
