St Albans Road affordable housing redevelopment complete
In 2012 Fylde Council identified an opportunity to improve one of the large terraced properties on St Albans Road to provide much needed affordable housing. The property was in a poor state of repair and likely to further deteriorate unless the council intervened.
A social housing provider was identified as a potential partner to work with the council to carry out a comprehensive scheme of improvement to the property. The council provided funding for the scheme through section 106 affordable housing monies with the intention of providing affordable housing units.
Negotiations with the property owner for the voluntary sale of the property to the housing provider was not achieved and resulted in the council making a compulsory purchase order in 2015 to acquire the property and to transfer ownership to the registered housing provider, Forviva.
Forviva’s work to convert the three storey terraced property is now complete and two spacious affordable housing units have been created.
Councillor Ben Aitken, Chairman of the Environment Health and Housing Committee for Fylde Council said “I am entirely delighted that after a lengthy careful process we have achieved our objective of a first class redevelopment which will greatly enhance St Albans road. The conversion has clearly been carried out to a high standard. Both of the housing units are very spacious and well equipped. It is good to see such a positive outcome achieved as a result of good partnership working between the council and Forviva, and we hope the future residents of the properties will enjoy it to the fullest. ”
