Enforcement

The Council’s Waste Prevention and Enforcement Team actively work with residents to help them recycle as much as possible and take responsibility for their waste and containers. Unfortunately, some residents are either unaware of their obligations, refuse to recycle or comply with the arrangements in place.

The first approach is always education, with enforcement action being used as a last resort for persistent offenders.

The three main issues the team tackles are:

  • Illegally deposited waste (unofficial sacks off waste presented on the highway or those presented too early)
  • Bins and other containers permanently left on the highway.
  • Litter
