Food Waste Recycling

Resident adding food waste to green bin

All food waste from mouldy bread and cheese to meat and fish can now be recycled, in the green wheeled bin, helping to improve the environment and achieve our new recycling target of 56%.
How?
Householders with a garden waste collection can recycle their food waste by simply adding it to the green wheeled bin alongside their garden waste. Food waste including plate scrapings can be added straight to the green bin or wrapped in newspaper or kitchen towel / roll.
Do not place food waste in plastic bags or add any packaging such as plastic trays and film as these items can not be composted. The Council will not be able to collect green bins that contain plastic bags or packaging as this could potentially contaminate the whole wagon load.
What types of food waste can be recycled?
- Meat and fish - raw and cooked including bones
- Fruit and vegetables - raw and cooked
- All solid dairy products such as eggs and cheese including egg shells (no liquids such as milk)
