2019 Christmas tree recycling

Once the Christmas festivities are over, it’s time to start thinking about how to recycle your real Christmas tree.

This year Fylde Council are supporting a trial doorstep collection service which is being offered by Trinity Hospice. Residents who live in FY3, FY4 and FY8 areas of the borough can book a collection in exchange for a donation to Trinity Hospice.

Real Christmas trees collections will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January 2019 (registration closes on 8 January). Limited collection slots are available so book early to avoid missing out.

For further details and to book a collection please visit Trinity Hospice Tree Collection page –

Real Christmas trees can also be taken to one of the following collection points across the borough between Friday 4 - Sunday 13 January 2019

  • Elswick Village Hall Car Park Roseacre Road, Elswick
  • Rawstrone Sports Centre Car Park Bush Lane, Freckleton
  • Middle Car Park Mill Lane, Kirkham
  • Staining Village Hall Car Park Chain Lane, Staining
  • Coastguard Station, North Beach Car Park Clifton Drive North, Lytham St Annes
  • Marine Bowling Club Car Park Fairhaven Lake, Inner Promenade, Lytham St Annes
  • Lowther Gardens Car Park West Beach, Lytham St Annes

Don’t forget to remove all decorations, skirts and bases before taking to one of these sites.

All real Christmas trees collected by Trinity Hospice or taken to one of the collection sites will be planted on St Annes beach as part of the ongoing Sand Dune Restoration Project. Planting the trees traps windblown sand and encourage the dunes to move seaward. This highly effective method has already enabled the diversion of hundreds of tonnes of sand from Fylde roads by keeping it on the dunes and acts as a soft sea defence against high waves.

Alternatively, real Christmas trees can be chopped up and placed inside the green bin if you have subscribed to the 2018/19 collection service. Please remember to make sure the bin lid is closed before presenting for emptying by the collection team.
